A couple whose triplets were tragically killed in a fire have welcomed twins.

Martin and Jane Weekes lost their triplets Lillie, Jackson and Willsher in May 2012, during a fire in a Qatar mall. The children, who were two, had been attending daycare at the centre when the fire broke out, killing 19 people.

Martin and Jane, from New Zealand, recently welcomed twins, Poppy, a girl, and Parker, a boy, by Caesarean section at 36 weeks. Jane and the twins are healthy and hope to return home from Auckland's North Shore Hospital next week.

Speaking about his new twins, Martin said he had mixed emotions about becoming a father again.

"It wasn't a difficult decision based around the fact that Jane and I really love being parents," he said. "But it was obviously a difficult decision in that you can never replace the children that you had and you never want to. You keep thinking, "Am I doing the right thing for Lillie, Jackson and Willsher?"

"Jane and I are overwhelmed with the human kindness of people in New Zealand and around the world, how happy they are for us. It's just amazing."
