A schoolboy has killed a teacher after shooting a crossbow made from ballpoint pens, according to reports from Spain.

The 13-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder after the teacher's death in Barcelona. At least three others were injured at the high school, possibly with a knife.

Local media reported that the teenage boy had arrived in class at Joan Foster Institute in La Sagrera an hour after lessons began this morning (Mon). He had concealed the weapons in his backpack.

He is suspected of targeting a female teacher and her daughter first.

Both are believed to have suffered non-serious wounds, although the woman reportedly sustained injuries near her eyes.

A male substitute teacher who then entered the classroom to stop the attack is believed to have been fatally stabbed in the chest with 'a bladed weapon'. He had only been working at the school for a few weeks, El Diario reported.

The third person to be injured was another pupil, who was stabbed with the knife. He has been taken to Sant Pau hospital with a chest wound.

Classmates claimed the boy had repeatedly said last week he would kill all the teachers and then himself.

He allegedly told pupils he had 25 teachers on a blacklist, but they thought it was a joke.

Xavier Trias, the mayor of Barcelona, has said he was 'appalled' by the 'tragic attack'.
