It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for... yes, friends – your long bank holiday animals of the week special is here. This week we’ve got all of the goodness for you including a heroic dog who alerted its owner to diabetic changes thousands of times.
Oh, and a cat who thinks it’s a bird. Buckle up.
1. Dog Gets ‘OBE’ For Being Truly Good Boy
Pal (great name) has been trained to detect changes in the blood sugar levels of his diabetic owner and has been honoured for his devotion as a result.
The eight-year-old Labrador was awarded the PDSA Order of Merit – the animal equivalent of the OBE – at a special ceremony in Leeds Castle, Kent, earlier this week.
Incredibly, Pal has alerted his owner Claire Pearson to over 12,000 separate blood-sugar changes in the space of seven years. If not caught in time, these could have killed her.
He is a true pal, if ever we saw one.
2. Man Finds Purrfect Snuggle Partner
The man pictured below was recovering from an operation when his wife walked in and found him fast asleep with a big old cat snuggled up to him – they were even holding hands.
It turns out, however, that the family does not have a cat (well, they do now.)
3. Cat Has Identity Crisis
One cat loves birds so much it has decided to become one. The big grey ball of floof was spotted chilling in a large bird’s nest up a tree, and showing no sign of moving.
4. Mega Cat Powers Up
Someone seems to have stepped on this cat’s remote, activating beast mode by accident – and we just can’t.
5. The Bank Holiday Buddy We All Need
Everyone needs a good little helper to carry their Easter goodies.
