It is so often the case in relationships for a man to leave you for a younger woman. It's so common in today's day and age (no pun intended) that it doesn't even come as a surprise. The real shocker though, is when he tells you he's leaving you for an older woman.
We're all familiar with what you call a woman who dates a younger man, but what label do you give a man who dates an older woman? Here are some of the nicer names I happened to come across: a panther or a cougar chaser.
These May-December relationships defy the typical relationships we're accustomed to seeing, that is, with the exception of Hollywood. First there was The Graduate. Who could forget the line, "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me... Aren't you?"
Following that, there was the classic film, American Pie, which brought Stifler's Mom to the forefront of all young men's minds. You think 'panthers' and 'cougar chasers' exist only in movies, but how about Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, or even Harry Styles and Taylor Swift?
Hollywood can't seem to make this kind of relationship work. However, they do exist.
We all know why women date older men. There's maturity, there is security, a feeling of stability, and etc. Oddly enough, the same reasons can be applied for when we ask, "Why do men date older women?"
1. Thrill of the Hunt
No mater what age men are, they love the thrill of the hunt. Securing an older woman, even if only for a moment, may be as good as it gets for some men who feel they need to be validated in their sexual prime.
2. Insecurity
Men are extremely insecure. They want to feel appreciated, admired, and petted. An older woman may just be the thing to boost a younger man's level of confidence, especially if he knows he'll always have the fountain of youth on his side when standing next to someone older.
3. Oedipus Complex
I don't know a man who doesn't love his mother. Typically, those men know how to treat women right. However, there are extreme cases where men want to be with someone who reminds them of their mother.
4. Stability
The pressure for men to be financially stable can be a bit overwhelming in a relationship, so why wouldn't a man prefer it the other way around? Having an older woman that is powerful, successful, and wealthy alleviates the demand for a man to be stable in his own right.
5. Sexual Experience
There is no denying that with age comes experience. Older women are more sexually comfortable. Whether it is through having more partners or feelings of self-confidence, it can be said that older women are a bit more willing to satisfy a younger man's sexual curiosity.
