David Cameron's policy towards the migrant camp in Calais is about "keeping blacks out" of the United Kingdom, the deputy leader of the Green Party has suggested.
Speaking at a rally in central-London on Wednesday evening designed to show support for refugees, Shahrar Ali questioned why the prime minister and government were not welcoming more people into the country from the camp at the border in France.
"What led Cameron to describe the migrants of Calais as 'swarms', was it the cosy closet filled lifestyle of the Piers Gaveston dining club?" he asked. "Is it because they are black?"
The Piers Gaveston Society is an exclusive Oxford University club.
Over the summer, Cameron controversially described the migrants and refugees housed in the camp by the Channel Tunnel as a "swarm".
Ali condemned the prime minister for not allowing more people into Britain and using money to build fences not send aid.
"Millions spent on keeping blacks out, nothing for humanitarian relief. Yet the government is not the UK people. Rarely has heir ideology and policy been so out of step with ordinary people," he said.
The Green politician was speaking to a few hundred people alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and shadow international development secretary Diane Abbott.
