The actor Sir David Jason has hit out at Britain's involvement with the EU and claimed "the Germans want to run Europe".
The star of Only Fools and Horses and Frost spoke out in a magazine interview after a poll put the Conservatives 6% ahead of Labour after the Prime Minister David Cameron took a hardline stance over the Eurozone treaty.
Sir David, 71, spoke of Germany's "Fourth Reich", claimed Britain was becoming a satellite of Europe and said people were getting "a bit fed up with it".
Discussing his upbringing with the Daily Mail's Live Magazine the popular actor said he grew up in a house "getting bombed".
He added: "The irony is that here we are, the world has changed, and the Germans want to run Europe. They failed to do it by war, twice.
"What is it? Is this the Fourth Reich?"
He was described as grinning and continuing: "I just said it. I'm only reflecting what's been going on in the country for some time.
"We have more and more rules coming out of Europe telling us what to do, and I think people are getting a bit fed up with it.
"This was supposed to be a common market. I don't remember them ever saying we would be governed by Brussels and become a satellite of Europe.
"But there you are. At least we're not throwing bombs at each other."
