In my beautiful Mexico we have an amazing tradition on the 1st & 2nd November: The Day of the Dead. This tradition dates back to hundreds of years ago and the beauty of it is that it is still relevant for You and Me today!
So, the legend says that the Gates of Heaven open at midnight on the 31st October and spirits are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. It is a two day celebration; one day is specifically for children souls and the other one for adult souls.
However, contrary to what many may think, the Day of the Dead is not about grief and sorrow; it is a Celebration of Life!
People are rejoiced that during these days their loved ones are down on earth specifically to join them and have a good time. As such Mexico becomes a big party haha : ) We have very beautiful rituals : ) we set up colourful altars like the ones in the picture below where we put food, drinks, sweets and all the things our beloveds used to like when they were on earth. We also turn on candles so that they can see during the journey, and of course, very importantly, a picture of your loved ones that have already passed and you wish to honour and remember on the day. This tradition is widely spread across the country regardless of gender, age or economic status, that is why it's so beautiful. One of the rituals that still amuses me is that some people go to the graveyards and bring the party to their loved ones, it is a wonderful experience, I'm telling you.....
Soo, why is it relevant for us today?!
As I said earlier, death is not seen as sorrow and grief, it is seen as a celebration of life! This tradition teaches us that LIFE IS SHORT!
And that that is the circle of life, we should not fear death, we should celebrate, enjoy and appreciate every moment of our lives!
And we should remember and honour our loved ones who have passed. Remember the beautiful things we shared together when they were alive!
And with that note, I ask you...
Are you living life enjoying, appreciating, and celebrating every moment of your life! Are you living the life that you really want, are you expressing aaaalll the love you have : ) life is short....
And we never know when it will be our day, we can not really plan for that, so take a moment and feel....
How do you want to be remembered by your loved ones when you pass?
Take some minutes to reflect on that and make the necessary adjustments in your life to ensure you are living life at the MAX!!
Sending you a big hug of Love!
