The shindig in question was the annual Halloweek masquerade party where the theme was 'Disco Africa'.
Not 'Minstrel Madness', 'Rollicking Racism' or 'Black-Up Boogie'.
One of the misguided chaps is reported to be designer Alessandro Dell'Acqua.
There were other examples of pretty horrific attempts at what we can only assume was supposed to be irony...
