Deus Ex: Human Revolution To Be Adapted Into Big-Budget Movie

Here we go again, gaming fans: another beloved franchise is to receive the Hollywood transition to almost certain doom on the silver screen.

Deus Ex, the cyberpunk role-playing shooter, will be developed by CBS Films.

Producers Roy lee and Adrian Askarieh are said to be making the picture, which will revolve around the storyline from Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The game - an adventure set in 2027 about a security official gradually taken-over by mechanical enhancements - sold more than 2.5 million copies, which has not gone unnoticed by Hollywood.

Eidos Montreal, who made the original game, are said to be involved closely with the project - although whether that's a good thing or not is yet to be seen.

"As is clear from the wild success of the game, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal know how to exceed their audience's expectations by engineering incredible worlds," said Terry Press, co-president of CBS Films, according to Variety.

"No one knows 'Human Revolution' like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the 'Deus Ex' name."

Other movie versions of games currently in production include Just Cause, another Hitman film and a Kane and Lynch flick.

After Monday's announcement of an Assassin's Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender, this will likely come as a body-blow to gaming fans who have suffered unending misery at the hands of directors over the past two decades.
