After diabetic beauty queen Sierra Sandison proudly displayed her insulin pump during the Miss Idaho swimwear competition social media has become awash with pictures of people suffering with Type 1 diabetes showing off theirs.
The #showmeyourpump campaign, kicked off by Sierra, has seen people from all over the world share snaps of themselves sporting insulin pumps on their arms, stomachs and heads.
After being crowned winner of the pageant Sierra - who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes two years ago - posted a photo of herself walking the stage with her own insulin pump attached to the waist of her bikini on Facebook.
The beauty queen admitted that diabetes turned her life "upside down" at the time of diagnosis but after receiving floods of well wishes and words of encouragement she said: "I would never have dreamt of posting a swimsuit picture on social media, but diabetics from all over the country have been asking to see me and my insulin pump on the Miss Idaho stage.
"Honestly, it is terrifying walking out on stage in a swimsuit, let alone attached to a medical device," she wrote.
The picture now has more than 3,800 (and counting) likes and has been shared approximately 3,000 times on Facebook.
Earlier this month hundreds of Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis sufferers were spurred to share bikini selfies after a picture of makeup artist Bethany Townsend sporting a colostomy bag went viral.
