Dimitar Berbatov is set to leave Manchester United after Fulham emerged as the Bulgarian's likeliest destination.

Berbatov, 31, checked in at Manchester Airport on Wednesday morning for a flight to Florence with his agent on Wednesday according to the Manchester Evening News, but he neglected the chance to move to the Viola and reportedly Juventus as well.

Signed for a club record £30.75m from Tottenham Hotspur in 2008, Berbatov caused a split between United fans unimpressed at his languid style and those in awe of his technical mastery.

He scored 56 goals in four seasons at Old Trafford, with his best tally coming of 21 in the club's record 19th English title season of 2010/11.

Yet the club's top scorer was omitted from the Champions League final squad in favour of Michael Owen, who had made a measly four starts throughout the campaign.

In his final full season he hit nine goals from just 11 starts but found himself behind Danny Welbeck, as well as Javier Hernández, in the strikers' pecking order to start alongside Wayne Rooney.
