Doctor Who fans have accused the BBC of upsetting their children after it moved the show to its latest ever time slot.

The hugely popular show will move to 8.30pm on Saturday nights to make way for Strictly Come Dancing, and mums and dads say that's past their kids' bedtimes.

One parent tweeted: "Not great for my 6 year old!" while others said the slot would 'alienate' younger viewers.

Popular fan site Blogtor Who added: "'Doctor Who is moving to a later air time in the UK, won't someone think of the children?"

The new time slot will start on Saturday September 27, with each episode finishing at 9.15pm.

The Caretaker episode of Doctor Who will follow Strictly, which is scheduled to be shown between 7pm and 8.30pm.

A BBC insider told the Radio Times: "It's always been the plan for this series of Doctor Who to follow Strictly, once Strictly started, in the same way that Atlantis and previously Merlin did, as this series is on air in the autumn.

"It's going to be a brilliant BBC1 Saturday night with Strictly into Doctor Who."

The insider also acknowledged that viewers could watch the show in other ways, saying: said: "Doctor Who has always generated very high levels of recorded playback and iPlayer viewing so lots of children and families already choose a time that suits them over the days that follow."
