Republican presidential candidate and human-sized deflated whoopie cushion Donald Trump is on the campaign trail, jetting around the US in his private plane in hopes of winning November’s election.
As we all know, social media is a big part of his brand, his unfiltered thoughts often making their way onto Twitter in incomprehensible droves. Late into the evening on Monday he shared a photo of himself enjoying a nice fried chicken dinner.
As per usual, tweeters were less than kind with their responses.
Insults aside, there’s more than a few things wrong with the photo of Trump’s late night KFC feast.
1. He’s eating it with a KNIFE AND FORK.
Seriously, who does that?
IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD, DONALD.
This is all made worse by the fact that he publicly lambasted fellow Republican presidential candidate John Kasich in April for eating pizza with a knife and fork.
2. It’s clearly staged
The table has been set for him, the newspapers are arranged just so you can see how smart and important he is, the KFC bucket and pots are angled just so you can’t see the logo but it’s still obvious...
3. It’s obviously meant to make him look like he’s in touch with everyday Americans, BUT HE’S ON HIS PRIVATE JET.
4. Blatant breach of Federal Aviation Authority regulations.
5. It’s just hard to believe.
You can’t really imagine Trump standing in line to pick up a bargain bucket with sides.
However, despite his doctor claiming he’s at the pinnacle of health, Trump has been known to throw back the treats. He’s previously posted similar photos of himself chowing on McDonalds, he ate an entire carton of Haagen Dazs during an interview, and he has once said his favourite foods were “steak and hamburger and pasta and French fries, all of the things that we shouldn’t be eating.”
6. It’s all too reminiscent of the time he posted a picture of him eating a Tex-Mex concoction to make it look like he didn’t hate Hispanics.
In celebration of Cinco De Mayo, a popular Mexican holiday, Trump shared a picture of himself eating a taco bowl, an American bastardisation of a historic Hispanic food item. Adding further insult, the picture was captioned: “The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!”
This didn’t go down well, particularly since his presidential campaign has largely been fuelled by anti-Mexican rhetoric.
Due to fried chicken stemming from the cuisine of African slaves in the American south, some suggested the photo might be a repeat of his Cinco De Mayo catastrophe in an attempt to connect with groups of voters he has alienated during his campaign.
What next? Trying to regain the faith of Muslims by eating a falafel wrap from Starbucks?
