Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is set to make his Broadway debut.

The actor - who is currently shooting the third season of the TV series, which sees him play aristocratic Matthew Crawley - will star in The Heiress later this year.

He will be appearing alongside Jessica Chastain and David Strathairn in the production, which will open in October. So far the theatre has not been announced.

The play is based on the Henry James novel Washington Square and became an Academy Award-winning film.

Although Dan will be making his Broadway debut, it won't be his first time in the theatre. His stage credits include the role of Septimus Hodge in David Leveaux's West End production of Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the Doctor in Tom Stoppard and Andre Previn's Every Good Boy Deserves Favour at the National Theatre.
