Dua Lipa has heaped praise on a new remix of her song Hallucinate, which mashes up the track with the opening music for the BBC’s news coverage.
OK, first, let’s back it up a bit.
While so many of us have been glued to the news during lockdown, a handful of people have been taking the opportunity to put their own spin on the BBC’s oh-so-catchy theme tune.
Among them was Twitter user Ben Howell, who recently shared a snippet of a mash-up he was working on between the news music and Hallucinate, an album cut from Dua’s recent chart-topping release Future Nostalgia.
After getting the thumbs up from his followers, Ben posted the full version online, which quickly began being shared all over Twitter.
So popular was the remix, that in a truly meta move, he even ended up being interviewed about it by Simon McCoy and Radio 1’s Greg James – who became a champion for the mash-up – on the news itself.
And we’re happy to say Dua has now revealed that she is also a fan of the remix, tweeting about it on Tuesday afternoon.
“Quarantine level: @BBCNews remix of Hallucinate by @piffleandwhimsy [Ben’s Twitter name],” she wrote. “Thank you @gregjames for sending me this! I think this calls for a new theme tune???”
But Ben isn’t the only Dua fan who’s been having fun with her music and the BBC News theme.
In fact, another Twitter user recently shared their own mash-up of the theme song with Dua’s first number one hit New Rules, and as they said themselves, it is “an absolute tune”.
