Dua Lipa sent the pop world into a spin last Friday when she unveiled new single Don’t Start Now, so expectations were high for her performance at MTV’s EMAs on Sunday night.
Sure enough, the singer didn’t disappoint, giving the performance of the night with her rendition of the disco-tinged track.
The chart-topping star was tasked with opening the ceremony – held in Seville, Spain – and kicked things off against a wall of dancers in yellow bodysuits.
They then joined her on stage to perform some killer dance moves, which included some stunning and intricate chair-ography.
Don’t Start is the first single taken from Dua’s as-yet-untitled second album, which serves as the follow up to her 2017 self-titled debut.
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show last week, the singer said Don’t Start Now is just a taster of what to expect from the rest of the album, revealing it has been heavily inspired by disco.
It’s thought the album will include collaborations with Chic’s Nile Rogers, as Dua previously revealed she’d been spending time in the studio with the disco legend.
On Sunday night, Dua was seen sat next to her boyfriend Anwar Hadid, the younger brother of models Bella and Gigi.
The pair have been together since June, shortly after her split from chef Isaac Carew earlier this year.
The ceremony also saw Ariana Grande snubbed as she failed to win a single prize, despite being nominated in seven categories.
Ariana, who did not attend the event, was among the big losers on the night, alongside Lil Nas X who was nominated in six categories but also went home empty-handed.
Billie Eilish, however, took home two gongs, for Best Song and Best Newcomer, blowing her fans a kiss in a brief pre-recorded video message.
Liam Gallagher also made an appearance to collect the inaugural rock icon award, telling the crowd: “I was here last year. I want to recognise MTV for recognising my brilliance.”
He then closed out the evening with a two-song set including the Oasis track Wonderwall.
