Wherever she goes, she brings smiles, but the one she brought to the face of 15-year-old Zakwan Anuar during the Duchess of Cambridge's tour of Malaysia was extra special.
For Zakwan is terminally ill – and spends his days crying with pain. But the sight of Kate Middleton made the tragic teenager beam with delight.
Zakwan delayed a blood transfusion so that he could meet the Duchess, and he wasn't disappointed.
He chatted to the 30-year-old for about 15 minutes, telling her she was 'very pretty' as she signed a 15th birthday card for him and told him he was 'very, very brave' and 'very handsome'.
His mother, Norizan Sulong, was moved to tears by the encounter.
She said: "It was as if the leukaemia had gone."
The Duchess praised the work of the hospice movement during her first speech on foreign soil as Prince William's wife.
Dr Ednin Hamzah of Hospis Malaysia said the Duchess could become the worldwide figurehead. "It's not by chance that we were picked for her first speech abroad," he said.
