Dwain Chambers is one of 71 track and field athletes selected to represent Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.

The British Olympic Association (BOA) confirmed his and others' selection with just 24 days until the Games commence.

Chambers failed an out-of-competition drug test in 2003, and subsequently admitted to the use of performance enhancing substances, which saw him banned from athletics for two years and from the Olympic Games for life.

The 34-year-old, who will compete in the 100metres and 4 x 100m relay, said: "For me representing my country in an Olympics is a privilege that should never be taken for granted. To be given the opportunity to do so in my home town has been a dream that at times has seemed very distant and is now a reality.

"It is now my responsibility to prepare fully for the 100m, the relay, to support all my fellow athletes and all my other colleagues within Team GB. It is a very proud day and I thank the selectors for the confidence and faith they have placed in me."

Other notable athletes chosen include gold medal hopefuls Jessica Ennis (heptathlon and 100m hurdles), Dai Greene (400m hurdles), Christine Ohuruogu (400m) and Phillips Idowu (triple jump) and Mo Farah (5,000m and 10,000m).

Adam Gemilli, 18, is the youngest member of the squad and one of three athletes picked for the men's 100m alongside Chambers and James Dasaolu, 24.

However Jenny Meadows is a notable omission from the women's 800m, along with Marilyn Okoro, Jemma Simpson and Emma Jackson. Lynsey Sharp's good form sees her rewarded with a squad berth.
