A dying girl has received hundreds of cards and presents from well wishers around the world who want to make her last Christmas the best yet.
Addie Fausett, 6, has an undiagnosed brain condition that has puzzled doctors since she was a toddler. Now, it is thought unlikely that she will see next Christmas.
But instead of being crushed by the news, her family are focussing on their daughter's happiness and have asked the world to send Addie Christmas cards.
So far the family have been inundated with cards and presents. And little Addie couldn't be happier.
“We really just started spreading the word. I think it’s just going to grow and grow,” Amber Brosig, managing trustee at Children and the Earth, a nonprofit organisation who are helping the project, told Today. “We’re creating lasting memories for the family, with the family.”
Last month, doctors delivered the devastating prognosis to the girl's parents.
"They told us she probably won't last much longer and they told us roughly a year,” her mother Tami Fausett told KSL.com. "Cerebral atrophy is just a symptom of what is wrong, but she is still undiagnosed."
"She doesn't get to play with kids, so we thought if everyone would send her a card, we could tell all her friends it would make her Christmas a little bit better,” her mother added.
Family friend Kimberly Taylor Brown says: "Little Addie was a sweet, loving, healthy little beauty. Suddenly her muscles no longer wanted to do what she wanted them to do. Holding a crayon or even a spoon became an impossible task. Her sweet words of love turned to mystery as to what she was trying to say.
"A diagnosis still has yet to be found but they do know that her brain is basically shrinking and filling with fluid (diffuse atrophy) this is causing her loss of motor skills.
"If I were to be granted one Christmas wish that would be to help Addie and her family have a Christmas that will hold memories to last a lifetime. With that here are the words of her grandmother.”
