Two people who were shot dead in a flat in north London on Thursday have been named locally as a 52-year-old mother and her nephew.
Detectives have launched an investigation after two people were found with gunshot wounds in East Finchley this morning.
They have been named locally as Anny Ekofo, a mother-of-nine and her 21-year-old nephew, Bervil Ekofo.
Family members said the shooting was a case of “mistaken identity”. It is understood that other family members were in the flat at the time.
Officers were called by London Ambulance Service at about 6.25am on Thursday to reports of two people injured at an address in Elmshurst Crescent.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Ekofo’s sister Francine said the shooting was gang-related but that neither her brother nor her aunt were the intended targets, the Hendon Times reports.
Ms Ekofo said: “He was in bed. Anny answered the door to the gang, they shot her and then shot Bervil in his sleep.
“There had been someone staying at the house who was on the run from someone but had moved on.
“They were targeting him but got my brother instead. It was a case of mistaken identity. My brother was never in any trouble he was just stating at his auntie’s house it was wrong place wrong time. He was the best brother anyone could have,” the Evening Standard reports.
According to reports, the family moved to the UK from the Congo in 1991.
The Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Major Crime Command have been informed. No arrests have been made.
