‘EastEnders’ will welcome another shaven-head hardman later this year, as it’s been announced that Karl Howman is joining the cast.

While bosses are remaining tight-lipped on Karl’s character, reports suggest the former ‘Brush Strokes’ star will be a rival for Albert Square’s resident tough guy Phil Mitchell.

Karl’s as-yet-unnamed character will arrive in Walford in November and the actor is understandably excited to make his ‘EastEnders’ debut.

“It is an honour to have joined such an iconic show,” he states. “I’ve had a lovely welcome.

“The twists and turns, character and plots that are coming make it all the more exciting for me.”

Karl is the second new ‘EastEnders’ cast member announced this week, following the news that Linda Marlowe will play Shirley Carter’s mother.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins, the show’s Executive Producer, has admitted that he’s been trying to convince Karl to appear on the show for quite some time.

“We have been trying to get Karl to join EastEnders for a very long time and it’s fantastic that it’s finally happened,” he explains. “An authentic Londoner with grit, sparkle and a touch of danger, Karl is the perfect fit for this new character.

“His appearance on the Square will open old wounds and reignite old passions.”

Karl joins ‘EastEnders’ at an interesting time, as the cast are currently gearing up for the soap’s 30th anniversary.

The February 2015 anniversary celebrations will see a number of storylines finish, including the on-going Lucy Beale murder-mystery plot.
