Sam Strike as Johnny
Sam shared the news on Twitter, writing: “Thanks for all the love this year guys. Means the world. Decided to bow out. couldn't have done it without you all. Thanks @bbceastenders.
“And of course tremendous love to my Carter family . True love.”
‘EastEnders’ bosses are remaining tight-lipped on how they will write the character out of the show, simply telling Digital Spy: “We can confirm that Sam is leaving ‘EastEnders’. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Since their arrival in Albert Square, the Carter family have been at the centre of a number of the soap’s key storylines.
Sam’s character Johnny has struggled to deal his sexuality and Kellie Bright has been praised for her portrayal of Linda Carter, who was raped by her nephew Dean.
The rape storyline is set to develop in the New Year and show bosses have confirmed that the Carter family will find out what happened.
Johnny is the second Carter making an exit, as Stan, played by Timothy West, is also leaving 'EastEnders'.
