'The Royal Mile Is Just One Big Live Performance'
|

As Time Out once noted, New Zealander Al Pitcher "sits firmly in the comedy camp inhabited by the likes of Ross Noble and Eddie Izzard". So if you like your comics to be freewheelin' improvisers, then check out his Edinburgh Festival show Tiny Triumphs. But not before you check out his 10 answers to our 10 Quick Questions...

Pitch your Edinburgh show in 25 words or less.

I rock a mic like a vandal said Vanilla Ice and we all laughed - please bring that same attitude to my show please.

Your best Edinburgh moment?

Getting a bacon sandwich in The Meadows and seeing the guy cook it under hot steam from the coffee maker. I still ate it.

And your worst?

Trying to work out what gave me food poisoning after a bacon sandwich one time.

You've got one hour free in Edinburgh - what do you do?

You go to a show, you find something really intimate, really out there, and you will get your mind blown.

Which Edinburgh landmark/venue/place would you give a five star review to?

The Gilded Balloon. I have had so many great things happen there: the birth of my first puppy, the lottery win, the comedy, the hope and the glory.

Give us a secret Edinburgh tip!

The Royal Mile is just one big live performance - all the flyering people are actors.

Deep-fried haggis or deep-fried Mars bar?

I’m from New Zealand so I don’t eat haggis, its blasphemy. I’ve tried a Mars bar, it was excellent at the time, stupid after: furry teeth, stomach pains and guilt.

Kilt or trousers?

Kilt, just for the Basic Instinct moment when a man crosses his leg and you play the game 'which leg is the sausage under'.

Arthur's Seat or Arthur Smith?

I like landmarks that have stood the test of time, that have been trampled over, pissed on and taken your breath away when you are on top, so: Arthur Smith

Complete this sentence: “In Edinburgh, I will be mainly...

...up my own arse, crying and wanting your attention.”

Al Pitcher’s show Tiny Triumphs is at 20.15 at the Gilded Balloon, 1-26 August. Find out more and book tickets here.
