Edinburgh Festival Comedy: 10 Questions With Tom Flanagan

Edinburgh Festival Comedy: Q&A With Kaput's Tom Flanagan

If you're seeking elegant buffoonery at this year's Edinburgh Festival, then check out comedy acrobat Tom Flanagan. Star of Australia's acclaimed Tom Tom Crew and Circus Oz, he's returning to the Fringe with his silent movie-esque solo show Kaput.

Pitch your Edinburgh show in 25 words or less.

Kaput: One man’s struggle to do three really simple tasks. It’s a silent, but very funny, physical theatre show!

Your best Edinburgh moment?

Far too many that I can remember and possibly many more that I will never remember.

And your worst?

Breaking up with my girlfriend on the steps of the Grassmarket.

You've got one hour free in Edinburgh - what do you do?

Any of the following: catch a street show on the fly, drink a pint, catch up on some sleep, eat vitamins, eat food. But I will be probably rebuilding props from all the chaos in my show.

Which Edinburgh landmark/venue/place would you give a five star review to?

My favourite landmark is Calton Hill by far. Best view in town - you can see everything. I would like to have five minutes up there about half way through week three.

Give us a secret Edinburgh tip!

There's a new secret every year. I’m pretty sure this year’s secret is go and see Kaput - it will make anyone laugh, doesn’t matter if you're 3 or 93. Something for everyone, it really is an all-ages show.

Deep-fried haggis or deep-fried Mars bar?

Mars bar, because you always know what you are going to get. Good haggis is good but bad haggis is really bad.

Kilt or trousers?

Two pairs of trousers. I own a kilt but I’ve never worn it in Scotland because it’s too bloody cold and I don’t own any underwear.

Arthur's Seat or Arthur Smith?

Arthur’s seat because I feel more comfortable climbing on top of it.

Complete this sentence: “In Edinburgh, I will be mainly...

...back-somersaulting off ladders, tripping over planks and getting into a tangle with glue and paper.”

Tom Flanagan’s show Kaput is at 15.05 at the Underbelly - Dairy Room, 1-27 August. Find out more and book tickets here.
