Edinburgh Fringe Comedy: 10 Questions With Tom Deacon

Tom Deacon's Quarter-Life Crisis
|

Award-winning comedian Tom Deacon has already appeared on your radios and tellies. But this month, he's all about the live act - taking this third solo show to the Edinburgh Fringe. Although not before he answered our 10 Quick Questions...

Pitch your Edinburgh show in 25 words or less.

My quarter-life crisis sets me out to complete a sticker album. Will it be done? If you like stickers and laughing you’ll love this.

Your best Edinburgh moment?

Winning the Chortle Student Comedy Award and then celebrating with all my mates into the early hours. Oh, and being given a free umbrella in the midst of downpour by a local.

And your worst?

Getting locked out of my flat and having to wander the streets in the typical rainy weather looking feral. This was the day before my umbrella incident.

You've got one hour free in Edinburgh - what do you do?

Apart from come and see my show at 7pm at The Pleasance Dome, I’d go eat some food and get ready for a late night of shows into the early hours of the morning.

Which Edinburgh landmark/venue/place would you give a five star review to?

Arthur's Seat, easily. I never thought I’d enjoy running up it as much as I did. Such a buzz when you get to the top and can see out across Edinburgh. Truly beautiful. (No jokes here.)

Give us a secret Edinburgh tip!

There’s a small pub on South College street near my venue the Pleasance Dome that has the best pint of Guinness and plays traditional Celtic music most nights. It’s not part of the Fringe, so don’t go in there acting a dick. That’s where I’ll be unwinding after a long day. [We think he means this bar - Ed.]

Deep-fried haggis or deep-fried Mars bar?

Both aren’t on my choice of things to eat to feel good about myself. I’d take the Mars bar just because there’s no blood involved.

Kilt or trousers?

What for, a present? If it is, I’d choose the kilt just to watch a mate’s face as they open up the parcel to be faced with the sporran staring at them.

Arthur's Seat or Arthur Smith?

Arthur's Seat is the comfiest, you’ll find.

Complete this sentence: “In Edinburgh, I will be mainly...

...trying to avoid reviews of my show so I don’t end up reading them and crying uncontrollably.”

Tom Deacon’s show Deaconator is at 19.00 at the Pleasance Dome - Ten Dome, 1-26 August. Find out more and book tickets here.
