Winona Ryder delivered some major 90s nostalgia during this year’s Super Bowl, reprising her role from Edward Scissorhands for a new car advert.
More than 30 years after first playing Kim in the classic Tim Burton film, she revisited the character for a new publicity spot for Cadillac cars.
And she didn’t do it alone, teaming up with Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet, who plays Edgar, the son of Edward Scissorhands.
Set in the same candy-coloured world as the original film, the 90-second ad shows Edgar experiencing many of the difficulties that you’d imagine would arise from having scissors for hands, as he struggles with riding public transport, attending uni lectures and playing sports with friends.
Winona’s character has a solution, though, treating him to – what else? – a new Cadillac car, complete with a hands-free driving system, ideal for motorists with giant scissors instead of hands.
Film director Tim Burton has shown the ad his endorsement, saying in a statement: “It’s rare when a work you’re proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years.
“I’m glad to see Edgar coping with the new world! I hope both fans and those being introduced to Edward Scissorhands for the first time enjoy it.”
Edward Scissorhands was released in 1990, with Johnny Depp in the title role, while Alan Arkin and Dianne Wiest played Winona’s on-screen parents.
The film also marked the final on-screen appearance of horror legend Vincent Price.
