The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, considered Europe’s top human rights award, could go to the fugitive US defence contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden.
Edward Snowden has been nominated for The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought
Snowden is apparently a favourite among the left-leaning Greens Party in the EU parliament, who nominated him for the prestigious award, saying that he has done an “enormous service” by leaking information regarding the NSA surveillance program.
Previous winners include Nobel Peace Prize laureates Aung San Suu Kyi and Nelson Mandela.
