An 11-year-old boy was arrested by the Metropolitan Police for being in possession of a gun. He is thought to be the youngest child to have been picked up for carrying a firearm.
The youngster was one of 1,180 children who were arrested last year by the Met for carrying an offensive weapon.
Newly released figures show that more than 100 kids were charged and detained before being sent to court, yet shockingly, 452 were let off with 'no further action' - 100 more than the previous year.
Overall, 70,000 children aged ten to 15 were arrested across the UK last year for various crimes, including sexual assaults, violent conduct and drugs offences. Only two per cent of them ended up in custody.
Scary stats or not at all surprising? Are you shocked by how many faced no further action after arrest?
