Frank Lampard's 30th international goal spared England defeat as they drew 1-1 with the Republic of Ireland in a mundane friendly at Wembley.
Shane Long opened the scoring for the visitors on 13 minutes with a beautifully guided header past Joe Hart from Seamus Coleman's excellent cross.
However their lead lasted barely 10 minutes when Frank Lampard equalised after Ireland failed to clear Daniel Sturridge's cross from the left.
Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge, making his first start for the Three Lions, hobbled off after half an hour with what looked like a serious ankle injury following a tackle with Glenn Whelan.
Ireland goalkeeper David Forde impressed with saves from Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while man of the match Coleman brilliantly denied Ashley Cole a first England goal on the night he captained the team for the first time.
