England enjoyed their first training session of the week ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland.

The players were put through their paces by Roy Hodgson and his coaching staff at St George's Park, three days ahead of their fixture with the Montenegrins.

Two wins from the Three Lions' final matches at Wembley will secure World Cup qualification as group leaders, rather than risk the drama of a play-off.

Hodgson is without Ashley Cole for Friday's match and has drafted in Arsenal's impressive Kieran Gibbs as cover for Leighton Baines.

Baines, named in the Premier League Team of the Year the past two seasons, could seize his chance to finally dislodge Cole at left-back.

Cole has been a certain starter for England since he made his debut in Albania over 12 years ago and has gone on to win over 100 caps.

Four years older than Baines, Cole's defensive game is still outstanding but he no longer offers a genuine attacking threat, unlike Baines.

Baines effectively plays a dual role for Everton on the left flank, and though his defensive game has improved in the last three years he is revered for his play in the final third.
