A murderer serving a life sentence who absconded from prison has been recaptured.
David Mitchell, 44, left Kirkham Prison in Lancashire on Tuesday morning to go to a work placement but failed to turn up, Lancashire Police said.
Mitchell, who is from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was serving a life sentence for the murder of his estranged partner in 1991. He had been at HMP Kirkham since March.
Police appealed to find him, saying he had links to the Huddersfield area, and confirmed today that he had been arrested.
A spokesman said: "He was arrested without incident in Huddersfield at 3.15pm yesterday."
He added that Mitchell has now been returned to prison.
