Muslim hackers have attacked the French Euromillions site denouncing gambling as "the work of the devil" and replacing text on the homepage with Quranic verses.
The group, calling themselves 'Moroccanghosts', posted in both French and Arabic, warning people against drinking and gambling which "sow hatred between yourselves and turn you away from God and prayer".
The text went on: "Oh you believers. Wine, games of chance, statues all augur impurity and are the work of the devil."
A statement released by Euromillions lottery operator La Francaise des jeux (FDJ) said other games had not been affected and pages targeted were in “the process of being put back up”.
FDJ stressed that no personal details of lottery players had been compromised.
A Twitter account under the name MorroconGhosts posted in Arabic: "After hours ... will penetrate the global gambling sites .. (O ye who believe alcohol and gambling ..."
