Feeling Sluggish? These Teas Will Get You Through The Festive Season

If there's ever a time of year when our immune systems need a bit of TLC, it's during winter. As well as increasing vitamin C intake and drinking anything green, herbal teas can do wonders for the mind, mood and skin too.

So - which herbs are the most beneficial when it comes to boosting energy and fighting germs? Susan Curtis, the Natural Health Director at Neal's Yard, recommended a few of the brand's new organic teas to us below. Here's what to drink (in between the mulled wine, champagne, egg nog) to get you through the festive season.

For energy

Always busy and feeling tired because of it? The Organic Vitality Tea was made for you. Its main energy-boosters are Siberian ginseng, thyme and liquorice while rhodiola is brilliant for those who suffer from SAD. "Brew for five to 10 minutes to get the full benefits," says Curtis. "It also works well as an iced tea."

For curing hangovers

For a quick cleanse after a big night out, Curtis recommends the brand's After Dinner tea. "Meadowsweet is cleansing and is great for easing a hangover," she told us. This blend also includes fennel, peppermint, caraway and camomile - all good things to drink to aid digestion after a heavy meal or drinking session.

For fighting colds

Ever heard of astragalus? Neither had we. It's great for boosting the body's defences and is one of the main ingredients in the Neal's Yard Inner Strength tea. Other supportive products include echinacea and elderberry as well as uplifting elderflower and warming ginger.

For a moment of calm

"Lemon balm is a natural anti-depressant", says Curtis, which is why it features in the brand's balancing and soothing blend - Calming. If you're a constant list-maker, or you find it hard to switch off, try a cup of this. The combination of skullcap and camomile will help to relax the mind and body.
