A “massive fire” has broken out close to Heathrow airport, with plumes of smoke spotted for miles across west London.
Around 70 firefighters were dispatched to the blaze at Ansell Garden Centre on Holloway Lane, near West Drayton, London Fire Brigade said.
A cordon is in place, but flights in and out of the UK’s largest airport have not been affected.
Many Twitter users posted pictures of the thick, black smoke close to a nearby hotel.
London Fire Brigade said:
“Over 70 firefighters are tackling a fire at a garden centre on Holloway Lane in West Drayton.
“A large section of the two storey garden centre is alight and crews have put a 100 metre safety cordon around the incident.
“Ten fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms are at the scene.
“Brigade Control officers received around 20 calls about the fire which is very visible and can be seen from a distance.
“The Brigade was called at 1633 and the cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”
