Flood warnings have been issued across the north-east and south-west of England, with heavy rain forecast throughout Wednesday.

According to the Environment Agency, there are currently 21 flood warnings in place, meaning flooding is expected in these areas, as well as 106 less serious flood alerts.

It comes after more than half a month’s rain fell in Wattisham in Suffolk on Tuesday, with 32.2mm of rain pummelling the area.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued two yellow warnings for rain, with one covering large parts of the south-west – including Bath, Portsmouth and Plymouth – plus Swansea and Cardiff in Wales.

The second covers large parts of the north-east of England.

It comes just weeks after parts of the north and Midlands were devastated by flooding, with residents still struggling with transport disruption.

In Derbyshire, several roads were destroyed by rain torrents, and one remained impassable on Tuesday because of a vehicle stranded in the water.

Meanwhile, South Yorkshire Police are continuing to try and identify a body found on a road affected by recent floods.

Officers said the man’s remains were found on Fordstead Lane near Barnby Dun, in the Doncaster area, on Saturday.

The road, between Barnby Dun and Arksey, was underwater for a fortnight after the River Don burst its banks earlier this month, inundating much of the surrounding area.

Officers were unable to say how long the body had been there.

However, many of the areas worst-hit by floods earlier this month, including Doncaster and the village of Fishlake, were not included in the Met’s rain warning on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Met Office forecaster Craig Snell told PA Media that while many parts of England and Wales would be wet on Wednesday, milder than usual temperatures were expected.

It comes after temperatures peaked at 14C in the south of England on Tuesday.

However, temperatures are expected to drop to 7C by Friday, with downpours also expected to ease over Thursday and Friday.
