Andy Coulson, former spin doctor for David Cameron and ex-editor of News of the World, has been released from a London police station after being arrested over phone hacking and corruption allegations.
Police said he had been bailed until October.
"A man aged 43 who was arrested by appointment at a south London police station today has been bailed to a date in October," a metropolitan police spokesman was cited by the Reuters news agency as saying.
According to the BBC, Coulson said he wanted to speak to the press but could not. He has previously denied any knowledge of phone hacking.
