Top Gear presenter Freddie Flintoff has assured fans he’s “absolutely fine”, after being involved in an accident while filming the BBC show.
The former cricketer made the front page of The Sun, who reported on the “124mph Top Gear smash”, which took place on the same track where the show’s former presenter Richard Hammond was left critically injured.
Freddie had reportedly been driving a specialised three-wheel vehicle when he veered off track, with medics rushing to his aid.
However, he’s insisted that the incident was not as serious as the headlines would have you believe.
Freddie told The Mirror: “I’m absolutely fine and was back filming today. I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but on this occasion I went a few lengths too far.”
He added: “It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV.”
A Top Gear spokesperson also said the show’s top priority is the safety of its presenters.
Freddie took over as a presenter on Top Gear earlier this year, as part of a new trio comprised of himself, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
The new on-screen team received a warm reception from viewers after taking over from former Friends star Matt LeBlanc, who spent three years at the helm of Top Gear.
Matt – and his short-lived co-presenter Chris Evans – were brought in to replace Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, after Clarkson was famously let go by the show in 2015, having punched a crew member while the show was being filmed on location.
Since then, the trio have launched their own series The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, which has also had its fair share of accidents on set.
