A Rolls-Royce owned by former Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury has sold at auction for more than six times its guide price.
The 1974 Silver Shadow was snapped up by a Russian businessman through telephone bidding for £74,600, including commission, more than six times its guide price of £11,000.
Freddie Mercury's Rolls-Royce was last used for the premiere of the Queen musical We Will Rock You
The car, which was bought by Mercury's managing company Goose Productions Ltd in 1979 for his personal use, went under the hammer this weekend as part of auctioneers Coys' sale at the Autosport International show at the Birmingham NEC.
A letter in the silver Rolls' file, which has just 62,000 miles on the clock, confirms it was bought for the star and continued to be used by him until his death in November 1991.
It was last used for the premiere of the Queen musical We Will Rock You in 2002 and is accompanied by a thick history file containing various bills and receipts and the current MoT certificate, which is due to run out next month.
Among other cars included in the auction was a green Ford Capri S which appeared in the BBC sitcom Only Fools And Horses.
The car, which was offered exactly as it appeared in the show with fake tiger fur interior and pink aerials, did not sell as it did not reach the guide price but a post-sale deal is currently being negotiated, Coys said.
The 'pratmobile' As Rodney Trotter described it
Nicknamed the "pratmobile" by Del Boy's brother Rodney in the show, it comes with the original two-litre engine, a letter of authenticity and a current MoT certificate.
Chris Routledge, managing director of Coys, said: "Autosport 2013 proved to be another successful event for Coys in Birmingham and underlined the global reach of this event with the Freddie Mercury Rolls Royce selling to Russia and other notable sales being made to Japan, west coast US and Colombia."
