South London Café F***offee Will Change Its Name After Landlord's Furore Over 'Offensive' Sign

London Coffee Shop Threatened By Lawyers For 'Offensive' Sign Caves To Name Change

A coffee shop in South London has vowed to change its name after lawyers warned the business would be taken to court if it refused to remove an "offensive" sign.

Manager of Bermondsey café 'Fuckoffee' Adrian Jones admitted the name was only intended as a joke but said he would re-brand the store under a different name on Friday.

The "offensive" sign

The 47-year-old had been warned by the building owners that his expletive-referenced display was offensive and would be torn down unless he volunteered to remove it.

Fuckoffee originally responded by tweeting a picture of the legal letter they received, commenting: "No humour please, we're British."

After the furore broke, Jones told of locals' reaction to his newly named shop.

"The police played up a bit, but later admitted there’s no legal problem with it," he told the Evening Standard.

“But this letter – I’ve spoken to my solicitor and he says we haven’t got a leg to stand on.”

Jones remained adamant, though: “I was doing coffee before Starbucks, so I can call my shop anything I want."
