Fulham Accept Tottenham Hotspur Moussa Dembele Bid (TRANSFER TALK)

Dembele Spurs Bid Accepted, Who Else Is Off? (TRANSFER TALK)
|

Tottenham Hotspur have backed up Tuesday's back page splashes by having a bid accepted by Fulham for Moussa Dembélé.

The Belgian, converted into a box-to-box midfielder but still adept as an attacker, will help breach the gap in the Spurs midfield left by Luka Modrić and the loan-bound Tom Huddlestone. Scott Parker too is out injured until October.

Dembélé excelled at Old Trafford at the weekend and Spurs seem to have skipped sampling the flavour of the month and got a head-start on any potential rival bids. Manchester United were (are?) believed to be monitoring the 25-year-old.

Spurs could miss out on Yann M'Vila however, unless they up their rejected £12m offer for the Rennes midfielder, write the Daily Telegraph.

As we said yesterday, Tottenham manager André Villas-Boas would ideally bring in 25-year-old Portugal midfielder João Moutinho from Porto, but he is also interested in Russia striker Alan Dzagoev, say the Mirror. Although their arrivals may herald the departures of Rafael van der Vaart and Jermain Defoe.

Back to Huddlestone, and the Stoke Sentinel say Tony Pulis is still eager to bring the midfielder to City.

And Fulham meanwhile are to make good on yesterday's transfer talk by securing the signing of Kieran Richardson from Sunderland.

The Cottagers have also made a £6.5m bid for Lyon striker Batafembi Gomis, although other Premier League clubs are interested. Newcastle, anyone? That via the Mail.

Elsewhere, the Mirror report Wayne Rooney's fears United are trying to sell him for £40m. It may nearly be two years on, but Rooney's public contradiction of the club's ambition, coupled with his fine last year for Christmas-time boozing lead weight to the theory his relationship with manage Sir Alex Ferguson is more of an armistice.

Take Ferguson's programme notes ahead of the weekend win against Fulham, as he welcomed Robin van Persie to the club:

“I really respect players who clearly want to play for us. And it has always influenced me when it comes to deciding who we should go for.

“The reverse is equally true for me because if I hear that a player has fallen out of love with us and is looking elsewhere I invariably help them out the door.”

Although an exception was ultimately made for Rooney (because he was that important), the arrival of Van Persie now makes the Croxteth man droppable. And sellable?

One striker likely to leave M16 this week is Dimitar Berbatov. His agent is due in Florence to finalise the United striker's transfer to Serie A side Fiorentina, allege the Sun.

Newcastle United may be one Premier League club sweating heavier than others this week if the circling vultures decide to pounce on their prized assets.

Cheick Tioté, Fabricio Coloccini or Yohan Cabaye will only be allowed to leave if the price is too good to turn down, claim the Independent.

Cause for consternation already exists at St James's Park given the lack of depth amongst the talented Newcastle squad, with Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana and Romain Amalfitano the only arrivals this summer.
