Gavin & Stacey stars Alison Steadman and Mathew Horne have given fans a taste of how their characters live in lockdown during a Facebook live-stream.
On Thursday night, Alison – who plays Gavin’s mum Pam Shipman in the hit BBC sitcom – hosted a charity quiz in aid of Marie Curie, an organisation she’s been heavily involved with in the past.
The quiz was themed around Gavin & Stacey, and as a treat for fans, Alison’s on-screen son Mathew joined her at one point for a short exchange in character.
Greeting her “little prince”, Alison (as Pam), admitted she was struggling with the lockdown measures as she was missing her pals “Japanese Margaret and Big Fat Sue”, who she “hasn’t been able to see in nine weeks”.
True to form, Mathew then claimed the highlight of his day was deciding “whether I’m going to have a mushroom omelette or a ham omelette”, referencing Gwen, Gavin’s mother-in-law, and her signature dish.
Alison’s quiz was a success in all respects, keeping fans entertained while also exceeding her £50,000 target for Marie Curie.
But they aren’t the only Gavin & Stacey cast members who’ve been entertaining fans during lockdown, with creator and star Ruth Jones recording a short message in character as Nessa last month.
“Oh, what’s occurring? Not a lot, other than a global pandemic but the question was rhetorical,” she told fans. “Now listen, I am not here to give advice, there’s plenty of others that would do that for you, it’s your life and I am not about to tell you how to live it. I wouldn’t do that to no one. I wouldn’t even tell myself to live my life.
“If you see me in the morning doing my daily run, my half marathon around Barry, don’t even think about breaking that two-metre rule because if you does I will not hesitate to tell you quite clearly to back off.”
After more than a decade, the Gavin & Stacey cast reunited for a one-off Christmas special last year.
For the most part, the episode went down a storm with fans, although one scene did spark controversy when an uncensored version of Fairytale Of New York was performed, leading to almost 900 complaints to the BBC.
