George Osborne will now be frantically brushing up on his times tables in his Treasury office after he dodged answering a simple maths question asked by a seven year old boy.
The chancellor, who was being interviewed by children on Sky News, was asked by Sam Raddings whether he was good at maths. "I did maths A-level so I have been tested at school," Osborne said. "What's 7x8?" the boy asked. The chancellor replied: "I've made it a rule in life not to answer a load of maths questions."
For the record chancellor, 7x8 equals 56.
Osborne was being asked questions by First News, a newspaper for young people. He also revealed he liked "uplifting" Pharrell Williams songs and that when he was a child he saved up to buy "something called a Scalextric".
And he said he thought the "rowdy" atmosphere of prime minister's questions was not a problem. "I'd much rather have a House of Commons, a parliament, which is lively and people feel passionately about things than a really quiet place," he said.
One girl asked him: "If the country was in debt and you needed help sorting out that problem who would you ask and why?" Osborne replied: "David Cameron." Suck up.
