Building gingerbread houses over the festive period is a common tradition, but this family have definitely raised the bar.

Imgur user Agkeeling uploaded a 29-photo album of her family's gingerbread house, which is a detailed recreation of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining.

And it's nothing short of incredible.

"This is a hobby," wrote Agkeeling, "My family and I make one every year, and this year we decided to do one inspired by 'The Shining'."

The house took the family two weeks to build

The whole house, which is almost four feet long, is made out of gingerbread with details added on using icing, fondant, sweets and Rice Krispies cereal mix.

If you've seen the film, the creation will be even more impressive.

There are rooms (view them all in the slideshow below) which mirror scenes from the movie, including the creepy twins in the hallway, the infamous room 237, and the lift full of blood.

The family said they had worked on it for about two weeks, writing on Reddit: "Our dad does all of the design from photos.

"We do one nearly every year - no duplicates. It is a Christmas ritual to have fights during the construction."

We're pretty sure it's going to be hard to find a gingerbread house that tops that.
