A petition has been set up urging New Order to allow footballer John Barnes to join them on stage at this year’s Glastonbury festival.
New Order famously collaborated with the 1990 England squad on the official World Cup song ‘World In Motion’, which featured a rap (!!) from then-player John Barnes towards the end of the track.
So far, more than 400 people have signed an online petition on Change.org urging the band to perform the song during their Glasto set in June, which will coincide with the Euro 2016 football tournament, also taking place this summer.
Campaigner Tom Sharpe, who set up the petition, writes: “England genuinely have a decent squad (debatable). We could win the trophy (also debatable).
He adds: “Should England qualify from the group stage, the performance would go down a storm. Credit goes to Mr Matt Young from 'Glasto Chat', I simply provided the petition!”
New Order were confirmed to be among this year’s performers on Wednesday (30 March), alongside a host of other musical acts, including Ellie Goulding, Years & Years, Stormzy and Beck.
Adele was the final act announced to be headlining the festival, with Muse and Coldplay having previously revealed they would be taking to the famous Pyramid Stage.
Other additions to the line-up will be made in the coming weeks, with Glastonbury organisers still to reveal plans for the cabaret and theatre areas.
