By now, you might have seen a picture doing the rounds supposedly showing Gogglebox’s Mary Killen in her modelling days.
The vintage snap shows a glamorous woman – looking very much like a young Mary – posing in the street as she models a mini skirt and a roll neck jumper.
Many people shared the photo on Twitter claiming it was Mary in her younger years, with the picture gaining further momentum after Zoe Ball tweeted it out to her 350,000 followers.
Even some news outlets, including Hello!, Daily Star and Metro, published stories on Mary’s early foray into modelling.
However, it turns out the picture isn’t actually of Mary at all but of another model called Susan Shaw, shot in 1975.
A Gogglebox spokesperson told HuffPost UK that Mary had missed the photo doing the rounds as she is “not on Twitter”, but was “hugely flattered” by the mix up.
Mary, who appears on the Channel 4 show alongside husband Giles, does reportedly have a modelling past though, as it’s believed she worked as a model in her 20s.
She now works as an author and journalist, with her columns featuring in a number of publications.
Her first book, titled How The Queen Can Make You Happy, was published in 2012, and she is also credited as being an etiquette expert.
Mary and Giles joined the cast of Gogglebox in 2015 and regularly have viewers in stitches with their squabbles as they pass comment on the week’s TV highlights.
