Ever wondered what happens to all that scrap gold jewellery daytime TV adverts urge you to send in?
It gets melted down into Scrooge McDuck-style gold bars of course.
This video, provided by Scrap Gold UK shows the process of turning a heap of broken, unwanted gold knick-knacks into a bar of currency.
The clip sees the gold melted down into liquid and poured into a mould, from which emerges a brick of the tax-free shiny stuff.
A spokesman told Huffington Post UK the bars are then refined into pure gold. He added the company has produced "tonnes" of gold bars over the years.
Literature on the website says: "Recycling gold has become a large industry, driven by the surge in the price of gold and the current global economic climate. Selling gold jewellery has enabled people to liquidate their assets into cash, a more usable currency in modern life."
Recycling gold is beneficial as mining for gold ore has negative environmental repercussions and involves the use of damaging chemicals such as Cyanide and sulphuric acid.
