One of our undeniable highlights of awards season last year was Pose actor Billy Porter, whose fabulous wardrobe choices proved to be a talking point wherever he went.
Whether it was his eye-catching cape at the Golden Globes or his gorgeous tuxedo dress at the following Academy Awards, Billy turned heads no matter what red carpet he was on, and we’re pleased to report that he has not forgotten how to make an entrance.
At the 2020 Golden Globes, where Billy was recognised in the Best Performance In A TV Drama for his portrayal of Pray Tell in Pose, the actor posed for photographers in an all-white suit, complete with a floor-length feathered train, so elaborate that it needed to be carried down the red carpet.
Speaking to E! presenter Ryan Seacrest shortly before the ceremony, Billy revealed the ensemble took three months to create.
“We had hopes!” he joked, pointing out the wheels were in motion on his outfit before he even found out about his nomination. “It’s really odd to have to work on clothes before you’re even nominated, so let me just say, it was with hope!”
Billy continued: “The feathers are fragile. This part actually zips off… to be comfortable, because it is a dinner, and I do have to sit down. This is not a sitting down outfit, this is a standing outfit.”
When Ryan assured viewers that Billy has always been the same, even before fame, the actor added: “[This is] my authentic self, and I’m just so grateful that I’ve lived long enough to see who I am resonate in the way that it has. Because it wasn’t always like that.”
This year marks Billy’s second time at the Golden Globes, following his historic win at last year’s Emmys, where he became the first openly gay black man to win an award in the Best Performance In A Drama category.
