There were a few surprises in the comedy categories of the Golden Globe Awards last night.
In the television awards, Modern Family won Best Comedy series, while Matt LeBlanc picked up the Best Actor gong for Episodes (we're not saying anything) and Laura Dern was named Best Actress for Enlightened.
Meanwhile, the 'Comedy Or Musical' film categories proved to be interesting indicators for the Oscars. The Artist won the award for Best Picture, as well as Best Actor for its French leading man, Jean Dujardin. The Best Actress award went to Michelle Williams, for My Week With Marilyn - a choice which struck us as a little odd, as surely MWWM should have been placed in the Drama, not Comedy, category. But then The Descendants, which has been promoted by many as a comedy, was named the Best Picture, and its star George Clooney Best Actor, in the Drama category... So hey, what do we know?
What we do know is that the Best Screenplay award went to Woody Allen for Midnight In Paris - hurrah! - and that, in true Woody fashion, he didn't show up. Ah well. Take a look at the pictures below to see which comedy stars did put in an appearance - whether on the red carpet, or on the stage...
