Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Götze has lost his battle to be fit for the Champions League final against future employers Bayern Munich this Saturday.
Götze, who last month agreed to join Bayern after they activated his £31 million release clause, last played for Dortmund in their semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.
He was withdrawn on 14 minutes after tearing a hamstring, and his appearance at the Bernabéu will be his last in a Dortmund shirt.
Götze, 20, said in a statement on Dortmund's official website: "The final was my big goal and in the past weeks I have battled hard for it.
"I am unbelievably sorry that I will not be able to help the team in this important match.
"I have huge belief in our team and will naturally travel with them to London to endeavour to support the lads off the pitch."

Götze's transfer broke two days before Dortmund's sensational 4-1 semi-final first leg victory at home to Madrid, however Jürgen Klopp revealed the deal was agreed the day after BVB's extraordinary quarter-final win versus Málaga.
Borussia fans reacted angrily to the news Götze was leaving for Bayern, as the club increased security at their training ground while his brother was abused at school.
Kevin Grosskreutz is likely to replace Götze in the starting XI at Wembley, with the onus on İlkay Gündoğan to reproduce his Real performance at the Westfalenstadion.

Although Götze started the first leg against Madrid, he gave a notably subdued performance in comparison to Gündoğan and, in particular, Robert Lewandowski, who scored all four goals.
