The No Doubt singer may have been dressed head-to-toe in slimming black, but there was no mistaking the baby bump she showed off to over a million Twitter followers. The candid shot caused a sensation, being retweeted over 3,000 times.
Gwen accompanied the selfie with the hashtags '#allblack', '#inappropriateshoes', '#capturethemoment' and '#miracle', perhaps a reference to welcoming her third pregnancy aged 43.
Last week, she confirmed that the newest addition to her family would be a boy, joining the two sons she already has with husband Gavin Rossdale - seven-year-old Kingston and five-year-old Zuma.
She announced the news on Instagram, where she posed in a gold crown, explaining: "I was ready to hand over the crown. But I guess I'm still queen of the house. #itsaboy #surroundedbyboys"
The chart-topping singer has previously spoken about the challenges of raising two young sons, telling Marie Claire: "From the moment they wake up, they start beating on each other." If the new arrival is anything like his brothers, it looks like Gwen is going to be playing referee for many years to come.
